more information

Bantey Srei means “Citadel of Women” as it is said that the reliefs on the temple are so delicate that they could only have been carved by the hands of a woman…

The visit of Banrey Srei Temple is a “must” and is at the same time an adventurer’s cycling tour that will let you discover the many facets of the countryside. Most of the time, you will cycle far off the main road on small unpaved roads to avoid the traffic.
Experience the delights of village life in rural Cambodia and well away from the tourist crowds you will discover real Cambodia.

Banteay Srei Temple, one of Angkor’s highlights, is located away from the other main monuments. This temple contains the finest and the most intricate carvings to be found in Angkor.
Situated in a remote area, the temple was rediscovered in 1914 and cleared some 10 years later. It was reconstructed using the method of anastylosis by French conservator Henri Marchal during the 1930s. Today the Banteay Srei is a very well preserved monument and the exquisite ornamentations that cover most of the temple show great skill and precision.

Highlights

  • Discover the countryside and villages of Siem Reap Province
  • Visit of the famous Bantey Srei, from 10th century, renowned for its intricate decoration carved in pinkish sandstone that covers the walls like tapestry.
